Frequently asked questions

What is integrative medicine?

Integrative Medicine brings together biomedical understanding with evidence-informed complementary approaches to support whole-person health and wellbeing. It considers the interconnected influences of physiology, lifestyle, nutrition, stress and environment, while working alongside conventional medical care where appropriate.

What is bioregulatory medicine?

Bioregulatory Medicine is a systems-based approach to understanding health that considers how the body’s regulatory systems interact, including the nervous, immune, endocrine and metabolic systems. Within my practice, this perspective helps inform a broader, whole-person understanding of health, adaptation and wellbeing.

Do you practice Functional Medicine?

My approach is best described as Integrative Medicine and Bioregulatory Medicine, informed by my Biomedical Science background and a whole-person view of health and wellbeing. While there is some overlap with principles commonly associated with functional and systems-based approaches, I describe my work according to my own professional training and qualifications.

In practice, this means taking a personalised and thoughtful approach that considers the wider picture of health, lifestyle and wellbeing

Who do you work with?

I work with adults who are looking for a more personalised and comprehensive understanding of their health and wellbeing. This may include people managing long-term health concerns, periods of stress or fatigue, or those who simply want to take a more preventative and proactive approach to their wellbeing.

Where an individual has an existing medical condition, my work is complementary to and does not replace appropriate GP or specialist care.

What can I expect from an Integrative Medicine consultation?

Your consultation provides time to explore your health, lifestyle and wellbeing in detail. We will review your current concerns, relevant health history, nutrition, stress, sleep, lifestyle factors and any existing laboratory or medical information that may help build a broader picture of your health.

Using my background in Biomedical Science, Bioregulatory Medicine and complementary therapies, I consider how different aspects of health may be interacting and develop personalised, practical recommendations to support your wellbeing.

Where appropriate, this may include nutritional and lifestyle guidance, herbal medicine, acupressure or other supportive approaches within my scope of practice. If anything arises that requires medical investigation or specialist assessment, you will be advised to consult your GP or relevant healthcare professional.

Initial and follow-up Integrative Medicine consultations are available for up to 90 minutes, allowing sufficient time for a thorough, individualised review without feeling rushed.

Is your approach to Integrative Medicine evidence-informed?

Yes. My approach is grounded in my degree in Biomedical Science and postgraduate training in Bioregulatory Medicine. I use professional reasoning informed by physiology, pathology and systems-based understanding, while complementary therapies are incorporated thoughtfully and within their appropriate scope of practice.

Does this replace GP or consultant care?

No. My services are complementary to conventional healthcare and are not a replacement for medical diagnosis or treatment. Clients are encouraged to remain under the care of their GP or relevant specialist where appropriate, with integrative support provided alongside existing healthcare.

5. Medication and existing medical treatment

You should not stop, reduce or change prescribed medication, medical treatment, investigations or monitoring without first consulting your GP, consultant, pharmacist or prescribing healthcare professional.

Any discussion about herbs, supplements, lifestyle changes, diet, movement, stress management, or wellbeing practices is intended to support your general wellbeing and must be considered alongside your existing medical care.

6. Bookings

Appointments may be booked through our website, booking system, by email, by telephone, or by another agreed method.

A booking is confirmed when:

  • you have selected or agreed an appointment time;

  • you have provided the required booking information;

  • payment has been made, where payment is required in advance; and

  • you have received confirmation of the appointment.

We reserve the right to refuse or cancel a booking where necessary, including where the service is unsuitable, payment has not been received, there is a conflict of interest, or there are safety or professional concerns.

7. Fees, payments and instalment payment options

Fees for services will be displayed on the website, booking page, invoice, or otherwise confirmed before booking.

Payment may be required at the time of booking or before the appointment takes place.

Additional costs, such as laboratory tests, functional tests, supplements, herbal products, written reports, extended correspondence, or follow-up services, are not included unless clearly stated.

Where PayPal, Klarna or another instalment payment option is available, this is provided through the relevant third-party payment provider. Any instalment agreement is between you and the payment provider.

JL Integrative Medicine is not responsible for the payment provider’s approval decisions, instalment schedule, payment reminders, charges, declined payments or account management processes.

If a refund is approved by JL Integrative Medicine, it will normally be processed through the original payment method or payment provider. Any refund may be applied by the provider to your instalment plan or outstanding balance according to that provider’s own terms and processes.

All prices are subject to review and may be updated from time to time. Price changes will not affect bookings already confirmed unless otherwise agreed.

8. Preventative Health and Wellbeing packages

JL Integrative Medicine may offer structured preventative health and wellbeing packages for clients who would like ongoing support over a focused period of time.

The 3-session Preventative Health and Wellbeing programme package must be completed within 6 weeks of the first appointment.

The 6-session Preventative Health and Wellbeing programme package must be completed within 12 weeks of the first appointment.

Package sessions should be used within the stated package period unless otherwise agreed in writing.

If you are unable to attend within the package timeframe due to exceptional circumstances, please contact JL Integrative Medicine as soon as possible. Extensions may be considered at the discretion of JL Integrative Medicine but are not guaranteed.

The Refund, Cancellation and Rescheduling Policy applies to all appointments booked as part of a package.

If you need to cancel or reschedule a package appointment, please provide at least 48 hours’ notice. Cancellations made less than 48 hours before the appointment may be treated as late cancellations and the session may be counted as used.

Missed appointments are non-refundable and may be counted as used.  Once a package has started, completed sessions are non-refundable.

If you cancel a package before all sessions have been used, any refund for unused sessions will be considered in line with the Refund, Cancellation and Rescheduling Policy, these Terms and Conditions, and your statutory rights.

Unused sessions that are not taken within the package timeframe are non-refundable unless otherwise agreed by JL Integrative Medicine or unless your statutory rights apply.

9. Cancellations, refunds and rescheduling

At JL Integrative Medicine, appointment times are reserved specifically for each client. To help manage clinic time fairly and allow appointments to be offered to others, please provide at least 48 hours’ notice if you need to cancel or reschedule an appointment.

Cancellations and Rescheduling

Appointments cancelled or rescheduled with 48 hours’ notice or more may be moved to another available date without a late-cancellation charge.  Where less than 48 hours’ notice is provided, a cancellation or rescheduling charge may apply, considering the appointment time reserved and any resulting loss to the practice.

Where circumstances are exceptional, such as genuine illness or an emergency, discretion may be exercised on an individual basis.

Missed Appointments

If you do not attend a scheduled appointment and have not provided prior notice, the appointment may be treated as a no-show, and the full appointment fee may be payable.

Late Arrival

If you arrive late for your appointment, the session may need to finish at the originally scheduled time so that subsequent appointments are not affected.  The full appointment fee will normally remain payable.  Where a late arrival means that there is insufficient time to provide the appointment safely or appropriately, the appointment may need to be re-scheduled, and the late-cancellation provisions may apply.

Preventative Health and Wellbeing Packages

Appointments booked as part of a package are also subject to the 48-hour cancellation and rescheduling policy.  Where less than 48 hours’ notice is provided, the affected session may be treated as used or a late-cancellation charge may apply, depending on the circumstances.

Practitioner Cancellation.

If JL Integrative Medicine needs to cancel or reschedule your appointment, you will be offered an alternative appointment at the earliest mutually convenient time.

Where an appointment cannot be rearranged and payment has already been made for that individual appointment, the relevant amount will be refunded.

Online and Distance Bookings

Where an appointment or service is purchased online, by telephone or through another form of distance booking, you may have statutory cancellation rights under UK consumer law.

These rights are separate from the 48-hour appointment cancellation policy. Nothing in this policy is intended to limit or exclude any statutory rights you may have as a consumer.

Where you request that a service begins during any applicable statutory cancellation period, additional provisions may apply in accordance with UK consumer law.

General

By booking an appointment with JL Integrative Medicine, you acknowledge and agree to this Cancellation and Rescheduling Policy.

This policy applies to appointments booked on or after the date on which the revised policy takes effect.

10. Consultation records

We may keep consultation notes, assessment records, correspondence, recommendations, risk-related observations, and other records relating to your care.

These records are kept to support safe and responsible practice, continuity of care, professional accountability, insurance requirements, and legal obligations.

Your personal information is handled in accordance with our Privacy Policy.

11. Laboratory testing and third-party services

Where appropriate, laboratory or functional testing may be discussed or recommended.

Laboratory testing is optional unless clearly stated otherwise. Any laboratory or test fees are separate from consultation fees unless specifically included in the service price.

Third-party laboratories, testing companies, booking systems, payment providers, video platforms or other service providers may have their own terms, conditions and privacy policies.

JL Integrative Medicine is not responsible for delays, errors, results, policies or services provided by independent third-party providers.

12. Reports, letters and communication with other professionals

Where appropriate, we may prepare written summaries, reports, or letters for you.

With your agreement, these may be shared with your GP, consultant or another healthcare professional.

Any letter or report provided by JL Integrative Medicine is intended to support communication and does not replace medical diagnosis, medical treatment, or medical advice from a registered healthcare professional.

13. No guaranteed outcomes

Individual responses to integrative health and wellbeing approaches vary.

JL Integrative Medicine does not guarantee specific results, symptom improvement, diagnosis, cure, prevention of disease, or particular health outcomes.
